How To Clean Suede Shoes In 5 Simple Steps

Suede shoes have enjoyed a remarkable rise to popularity, becoming a beloved choice for fashion enthusiasts worldwide. Perfect for all seasons, the suede shoe is a wardrobe staple for stylish Men & Women.

We've all experienced walking down the street in your favourite pair of shoes and then getting hit with a splash of unwanted dirt. But when it's suede, it is ALWAYS worse!

Luckily, our 5 step method is here to help.

What You'll Need:

  • Soft-bristled suede brush
  • White vinegar or suede cleaner
  • Clean cloth or sponge
  • Eraser or suede cleaning block
  • Suede protector spray

Step 1: Remove Surface Dirt

  • Use the soft-bristled suede brush to gently brush away any loose dirt or debris.
  • Pay special attention to areas with stains or buildup, brushing in different directions to dislodge particles effectively.

Step 2: Treat Stains

  • For wet stains, blot the excess moisture with a clean cloth or sponge immediately.
  • Allow the suede to air dry completely before proceeding.
  • For dry stains or scuff marks, gently rub the affected area with an eraser or suede cleaning block to lift the stain without damaging the fabric.

Step 3: Clean with Vinegar or Suede Cleaner

  • Dilute white vinegar with water in a 1:1 ratio, or use a specialized suede cleaner according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Dampen a clean cloth or sponge with the vinegar solution or suede cleaner.
  • Gently dab the stained areas, working in small sections and avoiding oversaturation.

Step 4: Rinse with Clean Water

  • After cleaning, dampen another clean cloth with plain water.
  • Gently wipe the entire surface of the shoes to remove any remaining cleaner residue.

Step 5: Restore and Protect

  • Once the suede is clean and dry, use the suede brush to restore the nap by brushing in one direction.
  • Apply a suede protector spray evenly over the entire surface of the shoes, following the product's guidelines for best results.
  • Allow the shoes to dry thoroughly before wearing them again.

Note: Always test any cleaning or treatment products on a small area of the suede first to ensure compatibility and avoid potential damage.
